Better late than never - here is the report about the Oktoberfest in Waterloo.

What comes to one's mind, being told about, that in Waterloo the world's second biggest Oktoberfest is celebrated? Huge marquees with people in droves, all only thinking of one thing: drinking beer!

So far so good. Basically Oktoberfest is thought to be like that, with minor limitations.

The marquees, in most cases erected by German clubs, are spread over the city, exactly like the clubs themselves. We celebrate in the marquee of Concordia Club, one of the biggest German clubs in Waterloo. Beside beer they have shooting galleries and snack bars. Her you can get sausages in a bun with sauerkraut, the Canadian Version of Bratwurst.

Typical for North America are the prohibitions that are supposed to guarantee for safety and well-being.

It is forbidden to stand on tables and benches, never mind dancing.

No alcohol on the dance floor!

Beer is served in unbreakable plastic pitchers and beakers.

People that are drunk are not allowed to enter respectively are kicked out even if they are congenial.

However, the rules a forced in most cases and even though we have fun and experience a hilarious evening. About 50-70 students from all over the world make a strident group. For entertainment there is the Black Forest Band, playing German music for a brass band, English lyrics to German songs. Being here is fun and so we party into the night (until 10pm, then they close....;-( )

So, here are the pictures....

Reinhold Schuster, our Canadian supervisor has trouble to keep up with spending pitchers ;-) At this point a big THANK YOU to him!
